Jonathan Majors has shared his feelings on the series ending of HBO’s Lovecraft Country.

According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Majors said to IndieWire that he felt “a bit of sadness” when the show was canceled earlier in 2021. But, he said he was happy with the new friends he made among his castmates.

“We are a family. I had a text from Courtney [B. Vance] this morning, and Jurnee [Smollett] and I talk damn near every day,” he said. “We’re very happy, but there is a bit of a ennui, a bit of sadness, because we’re done. We did it and we did it well, I believe. And it’s over with now, so it’s really jarring.”

After the show’s cancellation, showrunner Misha Green released some of the ideas she had for the second season of Lovecraft Country, including a look at how America would have been altered after the events of first season. She also released some new character names from the show’s story bible.

The series was canceled despite the cast seemingly under the impression that a second season was imminent. According to what Shadow And Act quoted from Deadline’s Justin Kroll in July, “What’s wild about [the cancelation] is that every cast member from Jurnee to Majors (spoiler alert was expected to return Jon Snow style) had cleared time in schedule and was under the impression second season was a foregone conclusion.

Despite the show ending, Lovecraft Country has been nominated for 18 Emmys. Green has also signed an overall deal with Apple TV+, partnering her once again with the team that greenlit Green’s WGN America show Underground.
