In a recent interview, business mogul and reality star, Kandi Burruss, sat down to discuss all things Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) and spilled some extra tea on her fallout with reality TV producer Carlos King.
For the last few years, the streets have been buzzing about Burruss’ alleged beef with King. Now, the R&B singer is finally speaking up about their fallout. As the latest guest on House of Aaron, a YouTube media channel hosted by Aaron Keenan, Burruss delivered the scoop on why she responded with “we’re not cool” on her RHOA recap show ‘Speak On It‘ when a fan asked about her relationship with King.
Kandi Burruss and Carlos King met in 2009 when Burrus joined the cast of RHOA in which King was a producer. RHOA was King’s first reality TV show, and he worked on the show for nine seasons before he left and launched his own production company, Kingdom Reign Entertainment.
In the interview with Keenan, Burruss shared the true reason she cut ties with King, alleging that it was due to him stealing Xscape’s story and selling it to television network TV One back in 2017.
“He is the one who stole my group’s life story and sold it to TV One,” the singer said during the interview. “And for that, I just can’t get past it.”

She continued, “I was talking to a friend and I was like ‘hey, we should a movie about our group’s life.’ It was a director, and he was like, ‘Someone’s already doing that.’ I was like, ‘what do you mean somebody’s doing that?’ In my mind, I’m thinking it’s one of my group members or something.”
“Oh, and sidebar, his other producing partner…had called my mom and [said] ‘oh yeah we want to interview you because we want to do a documentary or something about girl groups, so we wanted to ask you about Xscape.'”
According to Burruss, she felt betrayed by her one-time friend.
“I just thought that was the lowest thing someone could do,” she added.
Although King’s Xscape biopic has yet to see the light of day, the group members have been vocal about the fact that they do not support it per a statement they collectively made in 2017.
Xscape is planning to tell their own story, their own way, soon. As one of the top female R&B groups of the 90s, with three consecutive platinum albums and six top 10 hits on the Billboard charts, fans are anticipating when it will be released.
