Keegan-Michael Key has been tapped to star alongside Timothee Chalamet in Warner Bros.’ Wonka, Variety reports.

The prequel-of-sorts will be a musical focusing on the earlier years of Roald Dahl’s famous mysterious chocolatier, with Chalamet in the leading role. Key, on the other hand, will play a character simply described as “the police officer.” Even though the film is supposed to establish how Wonka became the person we find in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, there is no word on how Key’s police officer character figures into the story.

Wonka will be helmed by Paddington director Paul King using a script by Simon Rich, with David Heyman, best known for producing the Harry Potter franchise, on as producer. The film will be in theaters March. 17, 2023.

Currently, Chalamet can be seen opposite Zendaya in Dune, which is making the film festival rounds and will land in theaters and HBO Max Oct. 22.

Key’s latest project is Apple TV+ musical TV series Schmigadoon!, co-starring Cecily Strong and Fred Armisen. He also has several film and TV projects lined up, including voicing Honest John in Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio reboot for Disney. He’s also voicing a demonic character in Wendell and Wild, co-written by Jorden Peele and co-starring Peele.
