Audiences were introduced to Keke Palmer in the 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee. From then on], Palmer has gone on to do multiple jobs, from her time as a co-host for Strahan, Sara and Keke to her roles in films like Pimp and Hustlers. But Palmer’s biggest role may come as the lead in Jordan Peele’s new film.
In an interview with Refinery29, the hyphenate entertainer did not hold back her elation into entering Peele’s world of all-American horror. “It’s just the kinda thing that’s serendipitous,” she said. “Things are aligned. It’s like the things you wish for actually coming to fruition.”
She also spoke about her optimism amid trying times. “I think that’s why I was able to push through so much of [the last year],” she said of both gratitude and optimism. “I was just so happy that I was able to work and do what I love because so many people were not.”
In February, it was announced that Palmer was cast as the lead in Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated albeit secretive film for Universal.
While details of the plot are being kept under wraps, Palmer will join a cast that includes Oscar nominees Steven Yeun and Daniel Kaluuya, who earned a Best Actor nod for his breakthrough performance in Peele’s directorial debut, Get Out.
The film is set to be released on July 22, 2022. Other than Peele’s new film, Palmer is set voice the character of Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which is slated to premiere on Disney+ sometime this year.
