On the heels of the announcement of her joining The Proud Family revival series at Disney+, Keke Palmer has been tapped as the host of the 2020 Video Music Awards. The show will be held on Sunday, August 30. It will be the first live awards show since the start of the pandemic (the BET Awards were filmed earlier).

In the announcement video, she pays homage to her Nickelodeon series, True Jackson, VP, continuing to fuel reboot rumors that have been surfacing for a while.

“We’re thrilled to have the multi-talented Keke Palmer as this year’s VMAs host,” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events for ViacomCBS Media Networks. “Keke is an energetic force and a quadruple threat with unmatched comedic wit who will make this year’s show truly unforgettable.”

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga lead nominees with 9 nominations. So far, confirmed performers include Doja Cat and J. Balvin.
