Tri-Star has picked up adaptations rights to author Aimee Molloy’s novel “The Perfect Mother,” with Kerry Washington attached to star as well as produce via her recently-formed Simpson Street production company.
“The Perfect Mother” tells a story of a group of New York City mothers whose easy-living lives are disrupted when one of their children (a baby) is abducted from his crib . Over the following 13 days of a police investigation into the crime, each member of the mommy group goes to increasingly desperate lengths to find the baby, as damaging secrets are revealed, marriages are tested, and friendships are destroyed along the way.
In terms of the tone of the unpublished novel (Molloy sold it to HarperCollins in a 7-figure publishing deal), it’s said to be a thriller, with comparisons being made to “Gone Girl.”
Amy Pascal also will produce with her partner Rachel O’Connor.
No ETA at this time.
Washington can currently be seen on ABC’s “Scandal.” She received an Emmy-nomination for the HBO movie “Confirmation” (also produced via her Simpson Street production company), in which she portrayed Anita Hill.
Deadline was first to report the news of Washington’s attachment to “The Perfect Mother.”
