Kevin Hart has been tapped to star in the remake of 1974’s Uptown Saturday Night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kenya Barris (black-ish) has written the film’s script for Warner Bros., and the film will be overseen by Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment.
There’s currently no word on who will star opposite Hart; however, according to Variety, Hart’s co-star will be cast soon, and they are looking to tap a director before a co-lead is cast.
In 2012, it was assumed that Smith himself would star in the film, and he was in talks with Eddie Murphy, Denzel Washington and Martin Lawrence about the co-starring role.
The original, starring Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby, featured two friends who visit a seedy nightclub on a Saturday night and end up getting robbed, launching them on a quest to find their winning lottery ticket.
