(Shadow & Act Exclusive): Kimberly Elise has joined Brad Pitt, Ruth Negga, Donald Sutherland and Tommy Lee Jones in the sci-fi adventure film Ad Astra.
The movie is directed by James Grey, from a script he co-wrote with Ethan Gross.
New Regency, 20th Century Fox and Bona Film Group are financing the film. Fox will distribute in the movie in all markets, aside from China, where Bona Film Group will distribute. The story centers on a man’s journey across a lawless solar system to find his missing father, a renegade scientist who poses a threat to all of mankind.
Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner are producing through their Plan B company with RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira, Keep Your Head Productions’ Anthony Katagas, and Gray. Mad River’s Marc Butan, and RT Features’ Lourenco Sant’Anna and Sophie Mas are executive producing, along with Yu Dong, Jeffrey Chan, Anthony Mosawi and Paul Conway.
The film is the latest film partnership between New Regency and Plan B, which includes Oscar nominee The Big Short, Oscar winner 12 Years a Slave, and they are also working on the upcoming film, Wrong Answer, starring Michael B. Jordan, directed by Ryan Coogler and written by Ta-Nehsi Coates.
Elise will appear next in Death Wish directed by Eli Roth starring Bruce Willis, premiering in November 2017. She’s also been cast in the movie Headshop, with Deon Cole and Loretta Devine. She also stars in Hit the Floor, which moves from VH1 to BET this season.
