King Ester, an upcoming web series and the latest project from Dui Jarrod, has begun its 10-day production cycle.

This is Jarrod’s next project after his award-winning web series, BROOKLYN. BLUE. SKY, which was acquired by BET.

King Ester is set to follow a daring transgender woman, Ester (played by DeJaye Joseph), in New Orleans, Louisiana, as she navigates her sexual identity and her quest for stardom, but the wrath of Hurricane Katrina ravages the city and lives around her.

The project will star actress Janet Hubert, who will star as Mignon Pappion. Roland Lane from BROOKLYN. BLUE. SKY. rounds out the main cast as Elroy Lovelace.

While Hurricane Katrina was nearly 13 years ago, the stories of trans women are as timely and important to tell, as ever. The hurricane and the city of New Orleans almost act as characters alongside the stories of tragedy, triumph, and truth, all in which Ester’s story represents,” said Jarrod.

This is the first collaboration between Jarrod and Caralene Robinson, the web series’ executive producer, who was recently Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at VH1 and Logo.

Jarrod and Robinson plan to enter the series in targeted festival and award circuits and hope it  finds a home on an OTT platform.
