On the morning of its season 2 premiere, L.A.’s Finest has been delayed at Spectrum Originals.
Sony Pictures Television confirmed to Shadow And Act that the season premiere has been pushed “to a later date in 2020.” Though the studio would not expand in regards to the reasoning, the delay comes at a time where protests and uprisings are sweeping across the nation against police brutality. The movements to defund and abolish police departments are also gaining traction.
The second season, which was greenlit in 2019, was set to debut June 8. The series, starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, is a spinoff of the Bad Boys film franchise. Union reprises her Bad Boys character Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett, the sister of Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and love interest for Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). Sydney is now working with Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mother who has a complicated backstory. The first season was the most buzzed-about and highly expensive pilot in 2019, costing $12 million to produce. After NBC passed on the pilot, Spectrum Originals became its new home.
Fox acquired the broadcast rights to the series several weeks ago, adding it to their fall schedule as many broadest networks are seeking content since they were unable to film new and returning shows as expected.
