Lauryn Hill typically keeps her professional and private lives separate, but attendees of the ONE MusicFest got a surprise they weren’t expecting.
It’s not always guaranteed, but every now and then Lauryn Hill will pop out to perform on tour or at a music festival. This past weekend, she was a headliner for the ONE MusicFest.
The rapper, singer and songwriter took to the stage to perform a variation of her fan favorites from her influential album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. At the end of her performance of the song “To Zion,” her firstborn son with Rohan Marley, Zion Marley, came on the stage to surprise his mom.
At the height of her career, Hill became pregnant with Marley, who is now 25 years old. Some felt that she wouldn’t be able to balance her fame and motherhood at the time. The emotionally transparent song, “To Zion,” dedicated to her son, is an intimate conversation between a mother and her newborn son. In the song, the icon shares that she doesn’t regret moving forward with her pregnancy.
After their warm embrace, Hill introduced the crowd to her son. Marley then grabbed his children from backstage to also greet the “Doo Wop (That Thing)” singer.
“This is my grandson Zephaniah. This is my granddaughter Azariah. This is my son, Zion,” she told the crowd.

In addition to Marley and his kids being in attendance, so were three of her other children, John Nesta, Micah and Sarah. They also came out on stage, with Hill introducing them one by one. There were only two of her children missing from the beautiful moment, Selah and Joshua.
What a moment it must have been for the festival attendees to witness.
