12 years after its original cancellation, the original Law & Order series is making its grand return to NBC with new episodes for Season 21.
To cap off the return of the series that spawned a major television franchise, here are 3 actors who should make their return.
- S. Epatha Merkerson
It’s not Law & Order without S. Epatha. The Emmy Award-winning actress made a name for herself as no-nonsense lieutenant Anita Van Buren for 17 seasons from 1993 to 2010. Arguably one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise, Anita Van Buren is also the longest-running character on the original show. Merkerson has remained busy in the Dick Wolf universe, appearing in Chicago Med. But would she switch shows at the iconic series comes back?
- Tamara Tunie
Many fans of the weekend marathons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will surely recognize Tamara Tunie for her portrayal of medical examiner Melinda Warner. Since the franchise is no stranger to crossovers, it would be cool to see one of SVU’s biggest allies make an appearance as a main chharacter on the original series, perhaps even help Anita Van Buren uncover DNA evidence for a homicide case.
- Jesse L. Martin
Jesse L. Martin originated the role of Tom Collins on the Broadway play Rent, but to many he is known as NYPD Detective Ed Green on Law & Order. Appearing in over 200 episodes, Martin also made appearances on the Law & Order spinoffs, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Trial By Jury. If The Flash ends soon, Martin can come on back to the precinct.
