LeBron James and Maverick Carter have announced production of their first feature film for Warner Bros., which is based on a true story about a comedian who faked his way into the 2015 NBA Draft.
SpringHill Entertainment, James’ production company that’s run by Carter, and New Line Cinema acquired rights to Elite Daily comedy writer Connor Toole’s video from last year’s draft in New York, during which the 6 ft 10 in man spent the evening fooling people into thinking he was drafted in the second round by the Utah Jazz.
Toole’s original video, which you can watch below, went viral of course (almost 5 million views to date).
This is the first announced project for James’ SpringHill with Warner Bros., since they inked a long-term content production agreement last summer.
James will serve as a producer and Carter as executive producer along with Shawn Sachs from Madica.
LeBron James continues to shore-up his post-NBA business life, with his production company, SpringHill Entertainment, partnering with Warner Bros. Entertainment in what was called at the time, "an unprecedented agreement spanning all areas of content creation." The deal will see James’ creative footprint touch all areas of the Studio, with plans for projects in television, film and original digital content.
Most recently, CNBC teamed up with the NBA superstar for a new unscripted series set in Cleveland, Ohio, which will give local entrepreneurs the chance to realize their own dreams while also helping to revitalize struggling neighborhoods in their city.
There’s also Starz’s half-hour dramedy series “Survivor’s Remorse,” which James exec produces.
