One of the breakout stars of 2018 is undoubtedly Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, the princess of Wakanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We had the opportunity to chat with actress ahead of the release of Avengers: Infinity War on that film as well as Black Panther. 

Bringing her character in the second Marvel film of 2018, Shuri pops up to assist in extracting the Mind Stone from Vision (Paul Bettany).

On if any of her lines as iconic lines as Shuri were improv, she said there were a few.

“I wasn’t trying to be comedic, wasn’t trying to take that approach just telling the truth. You know people really relate to it and also just being able to play a character such as Shuri has been really great because we hardly see it and when we see it, we hold on to it and we cherish it. So yeah, it was good to have. Usually in an action movie or sci-fi movie, we have the damsel in distress-type character where the guy has to run in and save the day, and here, he’s looking to his sister, he’s looking to his girls, he’s looking to his mother for guidance and advice — they’re the ones who are really close to him, they’re the ones he trusts.”

The actress spoke about one of the most buzzed-about one-liners from the film. “There’s even a line in the film where she’s bringing in Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) after he got shot, and she says to him, ‘great, another broken white boy for us to fix.’ I love that line because we’re hiding a white boy in Wakanda that nobody knows about til the end of the film, so if you’re really geeky like that you would have put the two together like… ‘Oh snap, she’s talking about Bucky!’

“While she’s already confirmed to appear in the fourth Avengers film set for release next year, we’re positive that Wright will absolutely be an in-demand name for upcoming television series and films. She told us about the particular type roles that she wants to take on next.

“I wanna do more character-driven stuff, like not so much sci-fi, but something a bit different. And going into drama…really having to act and really having to take on a character.”
