Uzo Aduba co-stars alongside Maggie Grace in indie feature “Showing Roots,” which follows the story of what happens to a racially segregated, small, Southern USA town in 1977, when the TV miniseries saga “Roots” premiered that year.

Aduba and Grace play two residents of the town who are inspired by the miniseries, and join forces to integrate their community. Of course, it’s a lot easier said than done, as the town’s mostly ignored ugly racial history comes to the fore, disrupting their progress.

Cicely Tyson (who starred in the original “Roots”), Elizabeth McGovern and Adam Brody round out the starring cast of the dramedy.

Michael Wilson (“The Trip to Bountiful”) is the film’s director, with a script penned by “One Life to Live” actress Susan Batten.

Michael Mailer, Batten, and Nick Thurlow are producers.

Bill Haber, Jeff Hayes, Alan Helene, and Jennifer Gelfer are executive producers.

After touring the film festival circuit, winning the “Spirit of Freedom: Narrative Award” at the Bahamas Film Festival last year, as well as the “Best Feature Film” award the Maryland International Film Festival, Lionsgate has picked up the film for a June 20 home video (DVD) release (no theatrical unfortunately).
