The upcoming Riverdale spinoff at The CW has added two new actors. Katy Keene, which has a pilot order at the network, has cast Lucien Laviscount and Camille Hyde.
The series is from Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and has already cast current Riverdale star Ashleigh Murray, as well as Jonny Beauchamp and Julia Chan.
Murray currently plays Josie McCoy (of Josie & The Pussycats) on Riverdale and would reprise the role in the pilot for the spinoff, which takes place years after the events of Riverdale. It would be the second Riverdale spinoff following Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
The description: The show follows four Archie Comics characters, including Josie and the title character, future fashion icon Katy Keene, as they pursue their twenty-something dreams in New York City. The musical dramedy will chronicle the origins and struggles of the four aspiring artists who are trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.
Here are the descriptions of Laviscount and Hyde’s characters:
Hyde is set to portray Alexandra Cabot (not to be confused with the Law and Order: SVU character), “a powerful, savvy and chic New York socialite who is a senior vice president at her father’s company. Both respected and feared, Alexandra is competitive with her brother, who has a very different vision for the record label.
Laviscount will play her brother, Alexander Cabot, “the CEO of his father’s company who dreams of rebooting its dormant record label division, which attracts him to Josie. He’s cut from a different cloth than his billionaire family, as he’d rather take the subway and listen to vinyl, and he secretly DJs at a dive club.”
Aguirre-Sacasa and Grassi executive produce Katy Keene with Berlanti Productions’ Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater. Berlanti Productions produces in association with Warner Bros. TV.
Should the series get an order, Murray would leave Riverdale. As the show is set years after Riverdale, Aguirre-Sacasa said last week at the Television Critics Association press tour that if any characters were to crossover, they’d appear as older versions.
The role of Katy Keene has not been cast yet. Deadline reported the news of Laviscount and Hyde’s casting.
British actor Laviscount last appeared in Sony Crackle’s Snatched and Fox’s Scream Queens. He was also Romeo in ABC’s short-lived Shondaland series Still-Star Crossed. Hyde appeared in the first season of Netflix’s American Vandal and also starred as the Pink Ranger on Power Rangers Dino Charge.
