Looks like Lyriq Bent is a hot commodity at Netflix!
The actor who will star in the streaming giant’s upcoming, She’s Gotta Have It remake from Spike Lee will also star in their film adaptation of the novel, Nappily Ever After, alongside Sanaa Lathan. He rounds out the major cast for the film with Lathan, Lynn Whitfield, Ernie Hudson and Ricky Whittle.
Nappily Ever will follow “a woman named Violet (Lathan) with a seemingly flawless life — a great job, a handsome boyfriend who’s a doctor, and a meticulously maintained coiffure. But after an accident at the hair salon, each of these things starts to unravel, and Violet begins to realize that she was living the life she thought she was supposed to live, not the one that she really wanted. She starts to put the pieces back together with a little help from a soulful barber and his young daughter. Violet finds the courage to cast off some of the things that she didn’t really need, starting with the perfectly straightened hair, and find a life that has real meaning.”
According to Deadline, who reported the news, Bent will play Will Wright and the character is “a creative hair stylist and salon owner who begins a relationship with Lathan’s Violet Jones character, as she goes through some major life changes.”
Bent, who also starred in Rookie Blue, can be seen next in Tyler Perry’s She’s Living My Life with Taraji P. Henson as well.
