HBCU Xavier University in New Orleans, LA was the hub of Black entertainment on Tuesday. The fifth annual MACRO HBCU Summit took place this week, sponsored by Prime Video and SheaMoisture.

The microfestival started with notables like actor/musician Kofi Siriboe, TikTok Global Head of Creator Marketing Kudzi Chikumbu, costume designer Charlese Antoinette and Infinity Ward’s co-studio head Mark Grigsby are scheduled to appear, among others.

Siriboe, Chikumbu, Grigsby and Antoinette will be in conversation with summit moderator and MACRO Chief Brand Officer Stacey Walker King. Prime Video’s Culture Rated x MACRO Block Party, including food trucks, DJs, giveaways and raffles, will cap off the night.

The summit serves as a way to bring Hollywood to HBCUs and its students. The first summit debuted in 2019 at Howard University with a mission to “engage and educate students on a myriad of careers, opportunities and paths in the media and entertainment fields.” The Xavier University event is the second stop for the summit in 2023 after it made a stop at Howard University in October.

At Howard, Kickstarter CEO Everette Taylor spoke to the audience as well as The Color Purple director Blitz Bazawule, who talked with students and shared a never-before-seen clip from the film. Reginald Hudlin was also in attendance, speaking to students about his upcoming holiday film Candy Cane Lane starring Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross, and a screening of The Burial starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones.
