Former NBA player Jalen Rose is going to take a shot at acting, starring in his very own TV series for ABC – assuming it gets picked up.

Last week, ABC ordered a pilot for a comedy from “Fresh Off the Boat” creator Nahnatchka Khan, which follows Rose as a single father struggling to juggle his career responsibilities with the challenges of raising a child solo.

The potential series is titled “Jalen vs. Everybody.”

Announced today, veteran TV and film actresses Anna Maria Horsford and Marla Gibbs have joined the cast of the project, playing Rose’s mother and grandmother, respectively.

Horsford currently has a recurring role as Vivienne Avant on daytime’s “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Meanwhile Gibbs most recently appeared in NBC’s summer comedy “The Carmichael Show.” She’ll next be seen on the big screen alongside Dakota Fanning in the romantic comedy, “Please Stand By,” which is due out this year.

Rose has appeared in at least one episode of “Fresh Off the Boat” but this will be his first starring vehicle. His IMDB page says he appeared in the first “Barbershop” movie playing a customer.

No ETA on the project yet, but ABC is likely considering it for the network’s 2017/2018 lineup – again, should it get picked up to series.
