Dear White People‘s Marque Richardson is joining Janelle Monáe in the untitled Lionsgate film from Gerard Bush + Christopher Renz and production company QC Entertainment, which has brought us Get Out and BlacKkKlansman. We first reported on Monáe’s casting in March.
The film will follow Monáe’s character Veronica who is trying to escape her captors, which puts her on a journey towards questioning her life, such as her past, present and future. Richardson will play opposite Monáe as Nick, Veronica’s husband. Kiersey Clemons, Gabourey Sidibe and Lily Cowles also star.
The plot description is the only new information we’ve received, but aside from that, it seems like the team behind the film are still keeping things tight-lipped, similar to the small leak of information we covered during the initial news of Monáe’s casting. We do know that the film will tackle social issues though, and seeing that the project is coming from the same production company behind instant classics like Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, it leads me to expect to see some type of social commentary and a heaping dose of horror. We’ll surely learn more in the near future.
