Angel Love Davis enters Married to Medicine Season 12 as a new face to the franchise—but not to reality TV audiences. Viewers were first introduced to her on Basketball Wives LA, and now she’s stepping into a different space on Bravo, one that more closely aligns with her career and personal life.
A registered nurse with more than 15 years of experience, entrepreneur and single mother, Davis joins the show through her longtime friendship with Quad Webb. As she transitions into this new chapter on reality television, she brings a different perspective shaped by her professional background, past experiences on TV and her life outside of the spotlight.
In an interview with Blavity’s Shadow and Act, Davis discusses making the jump from VH1 to Bravo, the differences between the two shows, her life after Basketball Wives, and what she hopes to share if she returns for another season—including opening up about her personal life.
You’re not new to reality television, as we all know, we met you first on Basketball Wives, and not too many people made the jump from VH1 to Bravo. What made Married to Medicine a good fit for you?
Well, I’m definitely qualified. I’m definitely medicine, and I definitely feel like this is a better home for me because I fit more into the ladies that are in medicine. No shade to Basketball Wives as there’s some amazing women on that platform as well. But Married to Medicine is just Angel. Angel is Married to Medicine. It just fits. And I got a lot of my followers who would always come to me and say, “You need to be on Married to Medicine.” So I think it was just the alignment with God and the network finding me at the same time, and magic happened.
What would you say is the biggest difference between Married to Medicine and Basketball Wives in terms of the show and your co-stars, because you did say that you fit more in with this group of ladies?
With Basketball Wives, sometimes I felt like you just never know what’s gonna happen. I was always blindsided by things. It was crazy. Sometimes it’s just like all hell breaking loose. I feel like Married to Medicine, though we get that as well, but I think these ladies here, they have more to lose in terms of licenses and their reputations on the line. They have something to protect. So for me, I had to be mindful of certain things that I said, and certain things that I do. I do take care of human beings and I save lives for a living. So I want to always show up my best.
Now, one more question about Basketball Wives. As we now know, the show is coming to an end, and the franchise in itself has been on since 2010, and you were a key player for a few seasons. From your time on the show and from what you’ve known, what do you think the show’s legacy will be?
Basketball Wives has had a lot of hype. It was one of those iconic shows that you wanted to tune in to hear what the girls had to say, what they were wearing. I love each and every one of those women. That’s now a part of my history as well, so I’m definitely a part of them, and I think we’ll miss all of that. We’ll miss the quick clapbacks, the reads, the fashion, and seeing their families. They’ll be dearly missed.
Now going back into Married to Medicine, before you actually became a cast member, what were you doing post-Basketball Wives? Talk to us about what your life looked like. We know that you’re a nurse, but talk to us about life outside of being in front of the camera before joining the show.
I’ve been a nurse for 15 years. On top of that, I was formulating Life Angels, my scrub line—that was something that I did with my grandmother, and it’s a legacy of her because she was an amazing seamstress and she was the first one who created my uniforms. I would design them, sketch them up, and she would make anything that I designed. When I would go into the hospital, girls would request the scrubs I wore. And demand just was not being met with my little grandma trying to do her thing. So that was something I was working on in terms of cultivating my entrepreneurship with Life Angels. And then I started getting into real estate. I would build houses—that’s something else I was tapping into. I was also acting. I’ve done several movies. So I’ve just been doing my thing. You can’t box a nurse in. We have so many multifacets.
Going into Married to Medicine, especially because it is an established franchise, were you a fan? And now being on the show, who were you surprised in terms of forming friendships with or not?
I definitely was a fan of Married to Medicine. Quad is my sistafriend. We have been friends for years. So I would always be tuned into the show, and then I would get some of the outside scoops in terms of what was happening behind the scenes because of my friendship with Quad. So coming into the show, I knew Quad and Simone had their little spats here and there, but I just knew something was different for Simone. She comes off so raw, but when I’m around her, her energy gives me something different. I want to really find out who she is as a person. So I would say the friendship with Simone is something I am looking to foster.
Because you have been on reality television before, you kind of know the layout. Did you have a strategy going into this show to ensure that you stayed true to yourself and you didn’t get involved in unnecessary issues?
I feel like by this being my second time around, I definitely felt like I had to be guarded. I felt like I had to protect myself because leaving off of one show, it was a lot going on. So coming into this, I had to be prepared. I would say that surprised me because it really wasn’t what I thought. All the ladies were really nice to me and welcoming, but you know we are all women and we all have different personalities. There’s going to be some shade somewhere. But initially, I wasn’t sure if I’d be accepted.
What would you say is the difference in being a friend to the show versus a full-time cast member? Did you feel like you were able to kind of ease in?
I could have definitely done the full-time role because I feel like I was in the mix enough to be full time. I gave so much for this season, even being a friend of the show. I didn’t know the difference of being a friend or being a full time, so I guess now watching the season, it’s all in the edit and how much you appear throughout the season and each episode. But I just always went in just to give it my all, be open, be funny, be transparent, and just let the ladies get to know me for me.
If invited back as a full-time cast member, what are you hoping to expand upon in terms of what your specific storyline will show?
Just showing more of Angel. I’m a single mom and it is hard. I have two kids and I’m really just juggling these things by myself and I’m just trying to figure out the balance in between and also try to give my kids so much of me. So you’ll see me being a mom, you’ll see more of my kids. My daughter is an entertainer—she loves to sing, she loves to dance. She’s getting into the studio now, so I have her with a vocal coach. We’re practicing on that. I’m opening up a new med spa, so I’m transitioning from bedside to having my own brick and mortar, so that’s something you’ll see more of. You’ll just see so many different faces of Angel. I’m still into real estate. I have so much going on in my life. I’m a woman. I’m a hustler. And I believe in multiple streams of income, so you’re gonna see all of that. And you’ll see me trying to find my husband! Where is he?
So you would show your dating life on the show?
I definitely want to be open to showing my dating life. I think that’s important. Sometimes the fans can catch things that we don’t catch, so at this point, let me know of the red flags before I waste time.
