Another day, another Black Panther movie tidbit to share – except it’s not (and never has been) an official announcement of an actual Black Panther movie to add to your calendars.
It occurred to me that this ongoing teasing by Marvel (years in making) may all be part of some grand marketing strategy that will eventually lead up to an announcement by the studio that a Black Panther movie is indeed coming, with cast, director, specific release dates, etc. I can only imagine that fans will go crazy, when that day eventually comes – assuming it will; But, at this point, I’m leaning towards the "it will happen" crowd; especially when the head of Marvel openly admits that.
In an interview with IGN, published online yesterday, Marvel Chief Kevin Feige had this to share when asked about the possibility of a Black Panther movie: "It’s a question I get asked more than anything else… more than ‘Iron Man 4’ …. more than ‘Avengers 3.’ And that’s sort of the first time that’s really happened to us. And I think that makes a difference. I think that’s something we have to pay attention to."
Uh, ya think?!?
He did also say: "… it’s something… that development work has been done on and is continuing to be done on."
That’s maybe as close to revealing that a Black Panther movie is indeed in the works, as we’ll likely get in the meantime.
Earlier this month, Marvel announced release dates, through 2020, for a total of 11 titled and untitled films. Might a Black Panther movie adaptation be one of the untitled projects dated? Do you even care anymore?
Rumors are that Chadwick Boseman is Marvel’s top choice to play the character. Marvel has not confirmed those rumors. But it hasn’t rejected them either. And neither has Boseman, who’s been quite coy whenever he’s been asked about the possibility.
