Can Sam Wilson have a smooth transition into taking on the Captain America mantle? Apparently not, according to this report.

According to ComicBook, writer Marc Bernardin and director Kevin Smith talked about the Disney+ show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on their podcast, Fatman Beyond. Bernardin said that the series would revolve around Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) having a tough time with the government, which doesn’t agree with him taking on Cap’s role.

“That, I think, is the crux of what that show’s going to be,” he said. “The government doesn’t want Sam Wilson to be Captain America.”

According to ComicBook, Bernardin doesn’t say where he read the scoop, except that he read it. And if this is true, then it would be following the comic book stories regarding Sam’s time as the next Cap. Apparently, according to the article, Sam wasn’t liked by the government because he, like the original Cap, felt the Captain America title should be completely separate from government interference. But ironically, Sam’s issues with the government in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier also sound eerily like all of the toxic fans who don’t want Sam to be the next Cap just because’s he’s Black. But let’s hope the actual series has a lot more nuanced than toxic fans have.

We will be able to see what the show has to offer when it comes to Disney+ in 2020.
