Scream star Mason Gooding is set to star alongside Cruel Summer actress Olivia Holt in Spyglass’ original horror rom-com Heart Eyes. Deadline first reported the news.

The film will be directed by Josh Ruben, who’ll helm from a screenplay written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon (who was initially set to direct Scream 7) and Michael Kennedy.

“In the new pic, when the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer,” reports Deadline. “Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.”

Heart Eyes will be produced by Landon and Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks.

“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe,” Ruben said in a statement.

Murphy will exec produce Heart Eyes alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Chris Stone.

Gooding, who starred in the last two Scream films, first broke out in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart and went on to star in Hulu’s Love, Victor. He’ll be seen next in A24’s Y2K.
