Huge news broke Wednesday morning that talks had broken down, and Henry Cavill would no longer portray Superman in the Warner Bros/DC Comics films.

Now, in what would potentially be his third superhero film role, Warner Bros. is considering that “down the road,” Michael B. Jordan could step into the role of Superman.

Jordan portrayed Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Fox’s ill-fated Marvel Fantastic Four reboot in 2015. In 2018, he starred as Erik Killmonger in the critically-acclaimed Disney Marvel film Black Panther.

The Deadline report reads, “The word has been out that Warner Bros. has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time, even considering casting Michael B. Jordan in the role down the road. But at the present moment, a Supergirl movie is the studio’s priority.”

Though Cavill is leaving the franchise, Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) have DC Films on the radar, and though no news has come out about them recently, there is The Flash film with Ezra Miller and a solo Cyborg film with Ray Fisher.

Though DC/Warner Bros have wanted to overhaul the Justice League franchise for a while, Cavill’s exit could trigger an even bigger one.
