During Comic-Con over the weekend, Michael B. Jordan gave an insightful interview to Entertainment Weekly about his character, Erik Kilmonger.
As we know in EW’s earlier Comic-Con features, Ryan Coogler said there is no distinct hero or villain in the movie. “In this movie, a lot like politics, it’s a little tricky to define who’s who. The film very much plays with those concepts, looking at conflicts and different motivations, and who’s with who,” he said.
In MBJ’s interview, he further encourages this sentiment, suggesting that Kilmonger and T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman)’s differences, at the root of it all, may be purely philosophical. He suggests this by comparing the relationship of the two Wakandans to pivotal characters in the history of X-Men.
“Me and T’Challa have two totally different approaches to the throne as well and you see those two opposing sides clash. So you can call it a Magneto/Professor X type of chemistry. That’s all I can give away,” he said.
Interesting. Interesting indeed! It has us even more excited about February.
