Mike Colter and Larenz Tate have joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ “Girl Trip,” which will be directed by Malcolm D. Lee, and produced by Will Packer.
Colter and Larenz join the previously-cast Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Regina Hall in a film scripted by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver (both scripted this year’s “Barbershop: The Next Cut” which Malcolm D. Lee also helmed), which follows 4 lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, where sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.
James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, will executive produce.
Previously set for an August 11, 2017 release, the studio has moved that date up about 3 weeks to July 21.
Colter is repped by WME (we’ll next see him in the Netflix “Luke Cage” series this fall; and Tate is repped by Paradigm (we most recently saw him in NBC’s “Game of Silence,” which was unfortunately canceled after 1 season a few weeks ago).
