Another black-ish spinoff has been granted a full-season order.
It was recently announced that ABC has committed to nine additional episodes for mixed-ish. Both a spinoff and prequel to the fellow comedy black-ish, mixed-ish focuses on the early life of Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson as she recounts her experience growing up in the 1980s with a mixed-race family.
While Golden Globe winner Tracee Ellis Ross plays adult Rainbow in black-ish, newcomer Arica Himmel portrays the future Johnson family matriarch in mixed-ish. Tika Sumpter and Mark-Paul Gosselaar respectively portray Rainbow’s parents, Alicia and Paul Johnson.
“Mixed-ish has established itself as one of the sharpest, funniest and most original new comedies of the season,” president of ABC Entertainment Karey Burke said Monday in a statement. Upon news of mixed-ish’s full-season order, star Tika Sumpter posted her elated response on Twitter.
Finding out we got our back 9 order for @mixedishabc !! I don’t know how to act. Don’t take me nowhere. Love our cast and crew! @ABCNetwork #22 #mixedish ????@AngelaNissel pic.twitter.com/i1Vaaq0r6I
