Variety reports that Luke Cage writer Charles Murray has been tapped to adapt Beth Macy’s book Truevine: Two Brothers, a Kidnapping, and a Mother’s Quest: A True Story of the Jim Crow South, the telling of the true story of black albino brothers George and Willie Muse, for Paramount Pictures. The film will be produced by Appian Way, a production company developed by Leonardo DiCaprio. Appian Way’s President of Production Jennifer Davidson will also produce.

As we reported in 2017, the book recalls the Muse Brothers’ storied lives from their 1899 births on a tobacco farm in Truevine, Virginia, to being kidnapped as children by a stranger who was a bounty hunter. The brothers were eventually forced into performing at the circus and eventually performed at Buckingham Palace and to sold-out crowds in Madison Square Garden. They were global superstars in a pre-broadcast era. But the very root of their success was in their albino skin, and in the outrageous caricatures they were forced to assume – supposed “cannibals,” “sheep-headed freaks,” even “Ambassadors from Mars.”  Throughout their careers, their mother never accepted they were gone and spent 28 years trying to find them and bring them back home.

Murray is in demand as a writer. Along with his overall television deal with Marvel Studios, he is writing Micheaux: The Great and Only for HBO, which has Tyler Perry attached to star.
