The Last Dragon‘s Taimak, Power Rangers OG Walter E. Jones and Myles Truitt are set to star in the upcoming HBCU-set martial arts film, Paper Made.

As Deadline reported, the cast also includes wrestler Daria Rae Berenato and Quartay DeNaya. Taimak and Jones also serve as executive producers with Berenato, Shaun Greenspan and Brian Yuran producing. Ryan Watson serves as director and co-writer with Jerron Horton.

What’s the plot of ‘Paper Made’?

According to Deadline, the film “is set in a fictional HBCU…and follows Tavon Watkins (Truitt), who joins a secret fraternity of Black martial artists after a severe hazing incident.”

Other cast members include martial artist Jair Muhammad, martial artist and stuntman Sam Lee Herring and wrestler Jamara Garrett, aka Mara Sadé.

Watson said in a statement how important martial arts has been for Black Americans.

“Martial arts have been a part of the black American experience for generations and our film brings that excellence to the forefront from a perspective that has rarely, if ever, been seen in American cinema.”

Berenato and Yuran also said, “Growing up loving both martial arts and cinema in New Jersey, this story gripped us the first time we read Ryan and Jerron’s script. They have crafted a dynamic character piece with an action twist. This story transcends all cultures and Tavon is a protagonist for all.”

When does filming for ‘Paper Made’ begin?

Filming for Paper Made starts in March in Tampa, FL.
