NBC has picked up the drama pilot The Enemy Within to order. A high-octane thriller set against the backdrop of counterintelligence, The Enemy Within chronicles Erica Sheperd (Jennifer Carpenter), a former CIA operative who is now infamous for being the most notorious traitor in American history and serving a life sentence in a Supermax prison.
Morris Chestnut portrays Will Keaton, an FBI agent who reluctantly enlists Sheperd to help track down a dangerous criminal. Despite this, Keaton has difficulty trusting her. While Keaton and Sheperd both harbor different motivations to catch the killer, they put their differences aside and their espionage skills to work. The upcoming series has been getting comparisons to the current NBC thriller The Blacklist.
The project is executive produced and written by Ken Woodruff and directed by Mark Pellington. This would mark Chestnut’s first leading role in a television drama since his portrayal of Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr. on the FOX procedural drama Rosewood.
