Nelly has been cast as rock and roll legend Chuck Berry in the upcoming Buddy Holly biopic Clear Lake.
According to multiple reports, the rapper joins a cast that includes Colin Hanks, who will play Holly’s manager Norman Petty, and Diane Guerrero, who will play Holly’s wife Maria Elena Holly. Ruairi O’Connor will play Holly.
The film’s title refers to the location where the infamous 1959 plane crash happened, taking the lives of Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.
The day of the crash has become known as “The Day The Music Died” thanks to Don McLean’s 1971 song “American Pie.”
No word yet on a production timeline for the film.
