In light of recent events regarding the coronavirus outbreak, including a writer getting ill and actor Daniel Dae Kim testing positive for the virus, New Amsterdam has removed an episode about a flu pandemic from its current season.

According to Deadline, an episode slated for April 7 was originally called “Pandemic,” but later changed to “Our Doors Are Always Open.” But now, because of the pandemic, the episode has been moved to a future date, currently not announced. The show’s creator, executive producer and showrunner David Schulner wrote about the decision to Deadline, writing that the world “needs a lot less fiction right now, and a lot more facts.”

“We showed what happens when our hospital has to erect tents in the parking lot because every bed is taken,” he wrote. “…Sometimes, what the mirror reflects back is too horrifying to look at.”

“We shot a fictional pandemic episode right before a real pandemic hit. People are dying in real life. Do we really want to watch fake people die too?” he wrote.

The medical drama, which was renewed for multiple seasons recently, stars Ryan Eggold, Jocko Sims, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher.
