ABC is moving forward on its previously-announced untitled comedy from “Hamilton” Tony winner Daveed Diggs.

The network has officially given a pilot order to the comedy about a struggling rapper who runs for mayor of a city in order to promote his music, and ends up winning, and slowly transforms City Hall. The project hails from Diggs, writer Jeremy Bronson, as well as Jamie Tarses, Scott Stuber and Bluegrass FanFare production company.

Bronson will write and executive produce the project, with Diggs (who recently had recurring roles on Netflix’s “The Get Down” and ABC’s “Black-ish”) executive producing. He will not star in the project, although he might appear should it get picked up to series.

Announced today, young newcomer Brandon Micheal Hall, known most for his regular role on TBS’ dark comedy “Search Party,” has been cast as the lead in ABC pilot from Diggs. Hall’s IMDB credits begin in 2016, so he really is a fresh screen face. He also appeared in episodes of “Broad City” and “Unforgettable” last year.

James Griffiths (who directed the pilot for the ABC’s “Black-ish”) is attached to direct and also executive produce.

ABC is certainly becoming a home for black content creators including Shonda Rhimes, Kenya Burris, John Ridley.
