Disney+‘s upcoming Marvel series, Daredevil: Born Again, added a Tony Winner to its cast.
Deadline reports that The Book of Mormon star Nikki M. James has been cast in the show. Her character is currently under a shroud of mystery as Marvel is keeping her character details close to the chest. Marvel also declined to comment to Deadline about the character.
James currently stars in Spoiler Alert and Severance. James has also directed television episodes of The Good Fight and The Bite.
ScreenRant theorizes that the season will focus on the Shadowland run of the Daredevil comic books, in which Daredevil becomes a leader of ninja group The Hand after becoming possessed by the Beast of the Hand. As the leader of the villainous group, many of the MCU heroes, such as Spider-Man, fight Daredevil to try to free Hell’s Kitchen from his rule.
The series brings Carlie Cox back to the role of Daredevil, aka lawyer Matt Murdock. Vincent D’Onofrio will once again play the main villain in the Daredevil lore, Kingpin, aka Wilson Fisk. Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini and Sandrine Holt also star. The series will be written by Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
Daredevil: Born Again is one of several Netflix shows that are finding new life on Disney+. The original Daredevil is part of Marvel’s Netflix empire, including Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Punisher, Luke Cage and The Defenders. The shows officially joined Disney+ March 2022. The new Daredevil show is supposedly not going to be related to the Netflix continuity and will be within the proper MCU, though some beats may remain the same from the Netflix iteration.
ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also joined Disney+ in March.
