Netflix‘s newest dark comedy, No Good Deed, proves that you never truly know what’s happening behind closed doors.
The ending of the series leaves viewers watching Lydia and Paul Morgan, portrayed by Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano, unraveling the truth about their son Jacob (Wyatt Aubrey)’s murder while still trying to sell their house of lies.
Throughout the series, we watch Lydia and Paul cope with the loss of their son and the mysterious situations around his death.
The truth about Jacob’s death
The biggest shocker is learning that Jacob was not shot by his sister Emily (Chloe East), as initially believed. A series of flashbacks and retracing of their steps induced by the unwelcome return of Paul’s brother, Mikey (Denis Leary), reveals the true culprit behind his death was the Morgans’ neighbor, Margo Starling (Linda Cardellini). Margo was the object of Jacob’s teenage lust and had been breaking into homes in his neighborhood and gifting her items, hinting at a possible romantic involvement between the two.
The night everything turned upside down, Jacob broke into Margo’s home, which she shared with her B-list celebrity husband, JD (Luke Wilson), to retrieve the stolen items he had given her. Scorned by his older love interest, Jacob threatened to expose their relationship to JD and ran from the house.
Margo chased Jacob down the street back to the Morgan’s home, and as he attempted to enter, she shot him in the back. At the same time, his sister assumed he was the burglar who had been plaguing the neighborhood and shot the family’s gun at the same time. Unbeknownst to the family that it was Margo’s bullet that took Jacob’s life, they had let the secret tear their family apart since that night.
How Margo became undone
After viewers learn of Margo’s true nature, she transforms from the Gucci-clad, gold-digging neighbor into a murderous villain. After the Morgans find out the truth about Jacob’s death, Lydia goes to confront her neighbor and leaves her to her demise.
As Margo assumes her night will end with a relaxing bath, her home bursts into flames, leaving viewers to believe that’s the end of Margo and her tacky fashion choices
What happens to Margo?
Fast-forward: Margo is seated at the bar and half of her face is burned, presumably from the house fire. When a young, handsome man sits beside her and asks for her by name, she assumes she’s met her newest suitor. However, she soon realizes he’s a police officer, who just happens to be Mikey’s son Nate (Kelvin Alves), there to arrest her.
Who got to buy The Morgans’ house?
Ultimately, all the couples interested in buying Morgans’ home got what they wanted. Leslie Fisher (Abbi Jacobson) and Sarah Weber (Poppy Liu) won the big prize of the Morgans’ house. After Sarah sages the space, they move in and prepare to take care of their baby and Lydia’s fruit tree. Dennis Sampson (O-T Fagbenle) and Carla Owens (Teyonah Parris) don’t want any of the bad juju associated with the beautiful Los Feliz home, so they backed out of the deal.
However, with the empty lot left from Margo and JD’s house burning down, they were able to build from the ground up and include enough room for Dennis’s overbearing mother, Denise (Anna Maria Horsford), and their newborn son. And with the $5 million check from Carla’s estranged father that Dennis cashed, passing it off as his book advance check, it looks like their foundation is off to a great start.
No Good Deed is a rollercoaster of dark humor, unexcepted twists, and unexpected healing. Viewers see a family uncover the dirt they swept under the rug and reunite and watch couples learn that no matter how big your home and extravagant your home is if it’s full of lies, you will never know peace.
