The life of staffers in Obama’s White House will be the focus of a new “high-concept workplace comedy” feature-length film.
A book proposal by White House stenographer Beck Dorey-Stein – picked up by publisher Spiegel and Grau as part of a seven-figure, two-book deal – has been optioned by Universal Pictures and Anonymous Content, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Titled “From the Corner of the Oval,” the film will be produced by Michael Sugar, whose credits include “Spotlight” and “The OA.”
No ETA on the project yet, but whenever it’s produced and released, it’ll be the 3rd Obama-related film, following Netflix’s “Barry” (which followed a young Barack Obama arriving in New York City, a Colombia University student, in search of an identity), and “Southside with You” (which fictionalizes the first date Barack and Michelle Obama went on).
Related, the Obamas recently inked a $60 million publishing deal to release a pair of memoirs, with Penguin Random House.
