For those unfamiliar with Omar Sy, you might recognize him for his role as Bishop in the 2014 superhero flick X-Men: Days of Future Past and his acclaimed performance as Bakary “Driss” Bassari in the buddy comedy-drama The Intouchables.

Now, the French actor is about to headline a television drama and make history in the process.

Sy is slated to be the first black actor to portray Arsene Lupin in a new French original scripted series for Netflix produced by Gaumont Television.

The character of Arsene Lupin dates all the way back to 1905 when he was created by author Maurice Leblanc.

Lupin is a skilled burglar whose adventures have been adapted into various television series and movies.

However, Sy will be the first black actor to portray the fictional thief and master of disguise. The new Netflix series will be a modern take on Leblanc’s popular novels.
