On My Block, Netflix’s most-binged series of 2018, finally announced its return date, and dropped a teaser and some images as well.
The coming-of-age dramedy will be back on March 29. Netflix released a teaser for the new season, which sees the community mourning one or more deaths. Quick Season 1 recap: The show’s first run ended with Latrelle (Jahking Guillory) attempting to get revenge on Cesar (Diego Tinoco), by showing up to Olivia (Ronni Hawk)’s party and shooting at him. But instead, she shot Olivia and Ruby (Jason Genao).
In the teaser, we see the main characters either in mourning or a solemn state like Monse (Sierra Capri) and Jasmin (Jessica Marie Garcia)…or counting cash in the case of Jamal (Brett Gray). We see photos of Ruby (Jason Genao) at makeshift memorials and assume he was killed, until he is shown sitting in a casket…and his eyes open, which hints at the fact that this preview clip is, in fact, a dream sequence.
It is later confirmed through first-look images that Ruby is in fact alive. But who isn’t in the teaser or images is Ronni Hawk’s Olivia. If you remember correctly, Hawk was the center of controversy after pro-Trump tweets surfaced and fans began to petition Netflix and the show to fire her. Does this mean Olivia is dead? Looks like we’ll find out for sure when the show returns at the end of the month!
Co-created by Lauren Iungerich (Awkward) and Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft (All Eyez on Me), the series is a coming-of-age comedy-drama about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high school set in the rough inner city. It’s set in a predominantly Hispanic and African-American part of South Central Los Angeles and follows a fearless foursome as they enter high school and confront the challenges of adolescence and their neighborhood.
The series, consisting of black and Latinx actors in what is most of their first major roles, stars Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco and Jessica Marie Garcia.
