WrinkleAva DuVernay film adaptation of “A Wrinkle In Time,” set up at Disney, has attracted Oprah Winfrey to its cast.

The science/fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle, first published in 1963, revolves around a young girl whose father, a government scientist, has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract. Three celestial beings guide her, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him.

Winfrey will play a character named Mrs. Which, the oldest of the three celestial beings in the story.

This marks a continuation of what is proving to be a fruitful working relationship for DuVernay and Winfrey, who first worked together on “Selma.” There’s also the much-anticipated “Queen Sugar” TV series which is coming to Winfrey’s OWN network in the fall.

By the way, “A Wrinkle in Time” is the first in a trilogy of novels by author Madeleine L’Engle, so this could be just the first of 3 films in a franchise. If you’ve read the novel(s), I’d love to read your reactions. If you’d like to own a copy, click here.

DuVernay is directing from a script penned by Oscar-winning writer Jennifer Lee.
