The release date for the upcoming, Cloverfield film directed by Julius Onah and starring David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw — has been moved…again.

This is the third time its release date has changed. It was first slated for February 24, 2017, then it was moved to October 27, 2017, and then it was moved again to February 2, 2018.
A third release date move seems not good for the film, but perhaps, maybe Paramount realized that it would have too much competition if they stuck with the February 2nd date, since it would’ve put the film between Proud Mary and Black Panther?
Now, the new April 20, 2018 date will put it in competition with Dwayne Johnson and Naomie Harris’ Rampage, which also opens that weekend.
Initially titled God Particle, this Cloverfield film has a black director at the helm and its let by black actors.
It’s been in development for about 5 years now, and it finally filmed last year.
The film was set to be renamed as the titled changed from God Particle and was listed as just “2017 Cloverfield Film,” but the naming seems to have returned to God Particle, per Variety.
When we last reported on the film, it was said to be one of Hollywood’s most buzzed-about “open directing assignments” (partly because there had been lots of secrecy around it, and J.J. Abrams had been attached to produce), the story (as we know it thus far) follows an American space station crew that’s abandoned after a problem with a Hadron accelerator causes Earth to completely vanish, challenging all they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for their survival.
Reports said God Particle would be connected to the Cloverfield universe, as Abrams and studio partner Paramount Pictures plan to continue to develop even more projects within that universe, released annually – at least until the exhaust it.
Joining Oyelowo and Mbatha-Raw are Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, Zhang Ziyi and Aksel Hennie.
Lindsey Weber will produce alongside Abrams, while Tommy Harper and Bob Dorhmann are executive producers.
