The trailer for the upcoming Paramount horror film, Passenger, makes night driving even scarier.

Starring Lou Llobell and Jacob Scipio, Passenger follows a couple who witness a horrible accident on the highway. But they quickly realize that whatever happened on the highway has followed them–a demonic entity known as the Passenger is out to get them and won’t stop until he succeeds in taking them.

What we know from the trailer of ‘Passenger’

The trailer, however, starts out with two male friends driving on the highway, showing that this Passenger entity is out for anyone who comes along that stretch of road. One of the guys leaves their car to urinate in the forest. When the car’s horn blares, he thinks it is his friend trying to hurry him. But when he gets back to the car, he finds his friend gone. He gets the shock of his life when his bloodied and battered friend is rammed through the windshield before being whisked away once again by a malevolent force. The remaining friend tries to quickly drive out of the forest, but every couple of miles, he keeps seeing a mysterious figure standing on the side of the road. Suddenly, that figure is in the passenger’s seat.

If the trailer is anything to go by, Passenger might succeed in instilling in viewers a heightened fear of traveling in unfamiliar places at night. The tagline for the film doubles down on the fear, stating, “130 million people take road trips every year. 15,400 of them are never seen again.”

Passenger is directed by André Øvredal from a script by Zachary Donohue and T.W. Burgess. Melissa Leo also stars alongside Scipio and Llobell. Executive producers include Jenny Hinkey, Nathan Samdahl, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro and Andrew Lary, with Walter Hamada and Gary Dauberman producing.
