Power: Origins, the upcoming Power franchise prequel series, is continuing to round out its cast.
Deadline reports that the Power spinoff has cast five actors in recurring roles. Hill Harper, Kelly McCreary, Tonya Pinkins and Damon Gupton are set to reprise with Nadia Dajani, who is reprising her Power Book III: Raising Kanan character Teresa Boselli.
While the majority of the Power series is a heavy crime drama, Power: Origins is described as “a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the Power franchise” and will focus on “the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”
However, it stands to reason that the series won’t be just a walk in the park, since the series is following the early years of James “Ghost” St. James and Tommy Egan, played in the original Power series by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora, respectively.
Spence Moore II is set to play young Ghost and Charlie Mann will play young Tommy. Mekai Curtis, who plays the younger version of 50 Cent’s character Kanan Stark in Raising Kanan, will also reprise his role in the new series, as the series is expected to carry over story from Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which is also a prequel.
The series is also set to star Raising Kanan star Jason Dirden, who is reprising his role as Traymont Stinson, Jennifer Ferrin, Lizzy DeClement, Lenny Platt, Armani Gabriel and Everett Osborne.
‘Power: Legacy’ is also in early development
Production on the series is currently underway in New York and New Jersey. The cast announcements come as another series, Power: Legacy, has also been reported to be in development, and could be the latest present-day spinoff of Power, bringing back Michael Rainey Jr. as Tariq St. Patrick for the first time since Power Book II: Ghost, and Joseph Sikora after the just-ended Power Book IV: Force.
