Shadow and Act has confirmed that HBO Max has tapped its first two stars for the new Pretty Little Liars series, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Chandler Kinney and Maia Reficco have been added to the series. Additionally, it has been announced that Lisa Soper will direct the first two episodes.

Here’s the official description; Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago…as well as their own. In the dark, coming-of-RAGE, horror-tinged drama Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe — in a brand new town, with a new generation of Little Liars. 

Kinney will play Tabby, “an aspiring director and horror movie buff. Like the other Little Liars, Tabby’s hiding a secret.” Reficco will play Noa “a striving, sardonic track star who’s working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention.

The original series ran from 2010-2017 for ABC Family (later Freeform) and was the No. 1 scripted series on cable for teenage girls. It sill remains as the top series to ever air on the network.

This will be the third spinoff of the show. Ravenswood aired for one season from 2013-2014 on the network and the recent Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists also aired for one season last year. Both were canceled due to low ratings. Original series creator, I. Marlene King, who was involved in the two prior spinoffs, is not involved with this one at this point.

The series is from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and co-executive producer/writer Lindsay Calhoon Bring (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). The series is produced by Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television. Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo are executive producing.
