A current trend known as the “Put Your Shoes On” challenge has begun circulating online, and people are torn over how to view the subject matter.

The TikTok challenge involves a parent, guardian or caretaker going up to a young child while recording and basically instructing them to get ready to engage in a fight between another adult and child. So, it essentially consists of an adult going up to a child in their care, saying “let’s slide” and capturing the child’s reaction.

While the videos are clearly nonserious and meant as a joke, people swiftly began conversing about whether or not it sets a negative example for the young, clueless children involved in the TikToks. While some condemned the challenge, others saw it as harmlessly humorous content.

This debate even made its way onto a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, where Charlamagne Tha God voiced his disdain for the challenge.

“I can’t even believe we’re entertaining this conversation. I don’t like it,” he said. “I don’t like people laughing at their kids’ pain. Traumatizing those kids for likes and reposts — I hate it. You got kids crying on the internet, scared to death because you wanna go viral. I think it’s wack. I don’t like it at all.”

On the other end of the spectrum, DJ Envy quipped that the trend was “kind of funny, though.” However, Angela Yee appeared to side more with Charlamagne’s point, adding that there were some aspects of the challenge she disliked as well.

“One thing that I thought was wack was there was one kid that was crying, like, ‘No.’ Then I saw people in the comments like, ‘I’m giving him up for adoption.’ I’m like, ‘C’mon.’ That would make you a bad parent,” she said.
