Queen Sugar has been renewed for Season 5 at OWN. This comes after its Season 4 finale, which introduced Underground and How to Get Away With Murder star Amirah Vann as a new character, aired Wednesday night.
Season 4 showrunner Anthony Sparks will remain in that capacity for Season 5.
“I’m thrilled to further explore the beauty, pain and triumph of this African-American family, with hopes that their story will continue to resonate with audiences who see themselves in the Bordelons. It’s a real honor to create this work with Warner Horizon and OWN as their support is rock-solid and wonderful,” said Ava DuVernay in a statement.
“Every character feels like family. Our own. I am excited to see what Ava has unfolding next for the Bordelons,” said Oprah Winfrey.
Here is the official description for the recently-wrapped fourth season: The contemporary drama series is back for the fourth consecutive year, following the Bordelon family as they discover Nova (Rutina Wesley) is publishing her memoir which divulges long-held family secrets.
