Lee Daniels’ Empire (literally and figuratively) at Fox is as strong as ever.
Empire still runs Wednesdays, topping the night over all networks. It’s sister series, Star, for the first time, ousted Modern Family in the coveted 18-49 demo, pulling a 1.5 to the ABC comedy’s 1.4. In terms of viewers, Modern Family still edged Star out, with 4.7M viewers vs. 5.3M.
Empire and Star, both up in viewers and the demo on their midseason returns,were the top two scripted series of Wednesday night with Modern Family at three.
ABC’s new sitcom, Alex Inc. which followed Modern Family, had a soft 1.1 debut.
Featuring a soundtrack of original music and music performances, Star follows three talented singers (played by Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O’Grady), desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success. The show also stars Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Amiyah Scott, Miss Lawrence, Luke James and Quincy Brown. Recurring cast members added for this season include Evan Ross, Elijah Kelley and Keke Palmer, Patti LaBelle, Brandy and La La Anthony.
