More and more with television and film, it’s seeming like what was once old is suddenly new again.

With all the new streaming services coming on the block in the next year or so, all eyes are on WarnerMedia as their streaming product. They already have signed big creators to overall deals (J.J. Abrams is reportedly nearing a $500M deal with them) and have big projects in the works.

Seemingly hoping to compete with the Amazons, Hulus and Netflixs that are already established, WarnerMedia may pull established properties from the Warner Bros. TV vault, and it seems like they could be eyeing revivals of shows from ABC’s TGIF block.

Deadline reports, “…WarnerMedia streamer is eyeing reboots of other WBTV-produced classic TGIF comedies, like Step by Step, Perfect Strangers, its spinoff Family Matters, as well as Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper. Sources stressed that talks are in exploratory stages, and it’s unclear whether any of the potential revivals would come to fruition, but there is interest.” Hulu currently has the original TGIF slate, but those shows will likely come to the WarnerMedia streamer, which is still untitled right now, once the deal is up.

While many may be exhausted of reboots (and sometimes they don’t go over well), it is hard to deny the fact that success is more easily attained in today’s age when built upon an existing intellectual property and media that people are already familiar with, mainly because it is easier to sell something that has already been successful before.

Family Matters, originally a spinoff of its TGIF predecessor, Perfect Strangers, ran for 9 seasons (8 of which were on ABC before it moved to CBS for the final season) from 1989-1998, and was the second-longest-running, non-animated sitcom with a Black cast at the time it left airwaves. It revolved around a suburban middle-class family in Chicago. Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper aired for five seasons from 1992-1997, starring Mark Curry as a former NBA player-turned-high school teacher.
