Regina King has inked a two-year deal with ABC Studios via her production company Royal Ties, which she runs with her sister, Reina King, who serves as development executive.
The new deal will see King/Royal Ties develop and produce new projects with/for ABC.
The busy actress (who directs as well I should add) who is booked for another season of ABC’s critically-acclaimed drama series “American Crime” as well as HBO’s “The Leftovers,” also recently joined the cast of Netflix’s “Seven Seconds” which will tell a story that unfolds as tensions run high between African American citizens and white cops in Jersey City, after an African American teenage boy is critically injured by a police officer.
She also directs, with episodes of “Pitch,” “Greenleaf,” “The Catch,” “Scandal,” “Being Mary Jane,” and the TV movie “Let the Church Say Amen” on her directing resume.
No word on what projects she might have in development under her new deal with ABC, but King joins a handful of other black content creators who also have production deals with the studio, including Shonda Rhimes, Kenya Barris, John Ridley, Kerry Washington, Viola Davis and, most recently, Larry Wilmore.
King is repped by ICM Partners and John Carrabino Management an Del Shaw.
Deadline was first to report the Regina King/ABC Studios deal.
