2017 ended with MSNBC as the No. 1 network in all of cable for black viewers in primetime (Monday-Friday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.).
This is according to Nielsen data provided by NBC Universal.
It means that MSNBC outpaced CNN, VH1, ESPN, OWN, TNT and BET, which make up the Top 10.
The network also had more growth than the other Top 10 cable networks combined, posting a 50 percent gain in black viewers in comparison to 2016.
CNN ranked as the No. 8 network for black viewership, up from 5 percent in 2016.
What the network says is due to the election cycle, the black viewership doubled from 2015 to 2016 as well, where MSNBC ranked No. 4 for black viewers in primetime, up from No. 15 in 2015.
The African-American audience of MSNBC is also growing (+50%) as fast as the overall weekday prime audience (+54%) on MSNBC compared to 2016.
